For hundreds of years in the Andes, beautiful alpaca and later sheep wool have been dyed, woven and spun. The dyes are from plants and insects of the area, an art to give those bright colors characteristic of the Andes.

 

You can separate this activity in any of our camps!

Dyeing and Weaving

Agriculture is not only part of the survival of the Andes, but it is also part of their culture. They grow, care for and harvest their own food, with potatoes being the main crop with its more than two thousand varieties in the Andes. The activity consists of learning from its ancient methods and seeing in practice the task that has to be carried out in the season.

During the harvest season, huatias (food cooked in small clay ovens) are usually made in the fields themselves.

In this part of the world, populations live in contact and communion with the earth. She is the mother of all the beings that inhabit her and therefore she must be honored and respected. Its maximum representation is the Apus, sacred mountains, guardian angels.

 

Understanding the meaning of these is essential to understand the worldview of the Andes.

ANDEAN CEREMONY

The adobe blocks used for the construction of the houses are the material par excellence of the Andes.

The adobe allows to have resistant houses, easy to make and the most important thing is that it retains the heat on cold nights.

 

We invite you to see how the earth can serve as a building material.

If you are one of those who like to walk and get to know a place in a deeper way, we recommend that you go accompanied by the inhabitants to the archaeological center of Moray, and then a 13km descent to the Salineras de Maras.
